To celebrate Valentine’s Day here at the blog, I thought I would share some Valentine’s Day celebration ideas over the next week and a half leading up to the big day. I hope to share some ideas for celebrating with kids, and also celebrating as a couple, so stay tuned!
This first idea I got from a friend, and we did it for the first time a couple of years ago. The kids loved it! It was a lot of fun, and a neat way to build anticipation and celebrate for a couple of weeks, rather than just one day.
The Valentine Mailbox
Each child gets a Valentine Mail Box beginning Feb 1st. (I am a little late getting mine started too, so don’t worry about that….just start sometime before Vday!) This can be something store bought, handmade, even as simple as a decorated shoebox. We use a heart-shaped box that each of the kids decorated a couple years ago…it’s probably time we create something new! 🙂 Their special Valentine’s Day Boxes get set out somewhere in the house. Each night when they are in bed, we stick something in each of their boxes. Some nights it might be a piece of candy or a little toy/trinket. Other nights it is a verse from the Bible about God’s love for them, and for His people. Sometimes it is a little love note from mommy and daddy. They love it! They wake up each morning with anticipation of what they will find in their box.
You could even take this to the next level and have some type of Valentine’s Day Box for every family member, and encourage each member to leave something in each other’s boxes each day or maybe every other day, sort of rotating different family members. It would be a good way to stregthen love and bonds between husband and wife, mother and child, father and child, and siblings!! Have fun with it! And stop back by to share your photos! I would love to see what you come up with!
