Weekly Wrap-Up 4/1/11

{If you are visiting from the UBP11 – you can find my party post HERE!}

I’ve been slacking on my weekly wrap-up posts lately.  I’ve been slacking on blogging lately!  Trying to fix that!

So this week in our lives, I guess the main highlight was pneumonia.  Yeah, kind of a bum highlight.  But it is what it is, and it’s what I’ve been recovering from all week.  Which doesn’t make room for much else in life, but recovering!

This past weekend was spent finishing up our garden!  Yay!  My first real garden!! I am so excited, and hope I dont kill it!!  I am also pretty certain that it was probably planting the garden/more likely mowing and stirring up big clouds of dust that I then inhaled, that likely caused my sudden onset of pneumonia on Monday.  🙁  This is my first time to ever have it, and I never realized it takes so long to fully recover from! (Even though we caught it and I was treated for it right away!)

So, anyway, about the garden.  We planted some green beans, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, jalepenos, cantaloupe, small watermelons, some salad greens, and some small pie pumpkins.  And we will see what actually survives!!  I am not a green thumb…I’ll try to keep you posted and track the garden progress here on the blog…if my garden flourishes, maybe it will give hope to other non-green-thumbers out there, like me!  Or, if it fails….maybe it will confirm what you already know…that us non green-thumbers, should stay far far away from the garden!!

Other than that, not much else to report from around our house.  I had a week of fun planned for this week – our own little spring break – however, that was not the Lord’s will! My sweet husband did take the kids on one of their field trips that was planned for this week – to see “Brer Rabbit” at Casa Manana -our awesome local children’s theatre!  They all LOVED it!!

And that about sums up our week!

I will now leave you with some links/articles I found interesting around cyberspace this week!!

  • 54 Beneficial Compounds Found in Pure Maple Syrup – “We know that the compounds are anti-inflammatory agents and that inflammation has been implicated in several chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, certain types of cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s – Researchers are looking into remaking these compounds to use in new medicine to fight these diseases – just awesome!!
  • I enjoyed this post by Generation Cedar – Confessions of a Woman Duped by Feminism
  • Found this cool free homeschool curriculum – Head of the Class – I am thinking about using the Spansh!
  • Also enjoyed this post on Generation Cedar on Why God Makes Us Wait
  • Read this and other great articles on this blog about Going Grain Free – although I am not sure I am doing that – yet anyway!
  • And finally, I heard about the Raw Milk Diet or Cure for the first time (its more like a type of cleanse).  I have also been following journeys of others who have done it HERE and HERE.  Very interesting stuff!!

How was your week?

  1. Glad you’re feeling better. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days with pneumonia last year, so take your time recovering.

  2. Bummer! Nothing like getting sick on your day off! Hopefully you can fit some of your missed plans into the next few weeks. Briar Rabbit sounds like it was neat! If it gives you any hope-I grew my first garden last year and many things grew. I am not a green thumb either.

    • Awesome!! Thank you! I am so glad to hear that you had a lot that grew…that does give me hope! 🙂 And we will definitely be fitting some of our Spring Break plans in over the next month. It is too much fun to miss out on!
