I am going to be posting this month with the “2012 Not Back-to-School Blog Hop” going on over at iHomeschool Network.  For the first week of the hop, the topic is curriculum.

For the past 4 out of 5 homeschool years, we have been using Heart of Dakota for our homeschool curriculum.   I adore this curriculum for our family!  I love it’s Christ-centeredness, ease of use, planned out lessons, richness in literature, and so much more!  So, this year, what else would we choose but Heart of Dakota?!  It is exciting to be in our now 5th year using this curriculum.  I now know the flow of it so well, and am in such a great groove with it that it just seems to get easier and easier to use.  In addition to that, now that Zoe is going through all of the guides that Trevor has already been through, it is so much easier to navigate our way through the school year.

I have chosen to make some changes, however, for us.  About halfway through our school year last year, I found that I was not keeping on top of Trevor’s 4th grade grammar and writing curricula (the ones recommended in HOD) as I should have been.  They were great programs, but we were falling behind on it.  I decided that the best thing for us was going to be to replace all Language Arts with Switched on Schoolhouse’s Language Arts program.  I knew that way Trevor would be getting and doing everything he needed.  He ended up cpmpletely LOVING the program!  So, we are sticking with it for this year as well.

Our other big change we implemented last year was to cut out HOD’s science, and instead combine science for both kids using Apologia Science curriculum!  I am really glad we made this change.  I am totally LOVING Apologia science and the way it is laid out and presented to the kids.  I am also loving that I can teach it to them together, and they are both learning the same thing at the same time!

Now, onto the details of our curriculum for each student this year!!
