Baby Update – 34.5 Weeks

WOW!!  Can it even be possible that the last baby update post I wrote was all the way back in MAY?!  I can’t even believe that!  Time sure has flown by with this pregnancy.  I guess just being busy with my other kids has made it feel so fast.  I am kind of in scramble mode right now, trying to get everything ready before baby arrives.

I am coming up on 35 weeks here in a couple of days.  It seems kind of unbelievable that my due date is only 5 weeks away.  And even more unbelievable that we might see this baby girl sooner than that.  For the past 4 weeks I have been going to the doctor weekly.  For one thing, she is big – but that’s totally normal for my babies.  She is measuring about 4 weeks ahead on the sono. What had my dr a little concerned though was my amniotic fluid.  It turns out I have too much of it.  And each week, I have been gaining an extra 4cm or so of it, instead of it decreasing, like it is supposed to.  I’ve read up on it a little, but everything I’ve read is so vague and differs from person to person.  I do not have gestational diabetes, so it is not due to that.  My doctor’s main concern with it seem to be the risk of stillbirth.  He said that having too much fluid can cause blood flow to decrease to the placenta.  So I am to pay extra close attention to the baby’s movement each day, and make sure I am feeling her kicking a lot.  So far, so good.  She has been doing just fine.  His other concern was preterm labor, but thankfully I am getting pretty close to the safe zone for that too.  More amniotic fluid can cause more contractions.  And it definitely is.  I have been having them a lot for a while now, and many of them are beginning to be more intense.  At my appt last week, as they did the fetal monitoring, it showed I was having them about every 3 minutes, but those were super light ones, that I could barely feel.  My doctor didn’t seem concerned about that unless they became more painful.  My doctor is watching everything closely, and said that he might induce me around 38 weeks if this condition doesn’t improve (or I don’t go on my own before then).  So, we will see how this all turns out soon!

Last week – 33.5 weeks on the sono

So far though, everything is still great with our baby girl.  She is doing great on the fetal monitoring (which I will be having done each week now until she arrives).

I am currently in my 2nd week of a 2 week break from homeschooling that I decided was going to be very much needed!  When it hit me that she could actually come before her due date – and I had nothing ready – I realized schooling all the way until a week before my edd was just not going to be a good idea!  So, instead, we are taking a 2 week break now, to get ready for the baby, and then will school the rest of the time until she arrives.  This is working out well, and we are getting a lot done.  Another factor that went into this decision was my strength and energy levels.  It is already getting SO hard to get anything done.  And with the extra fluid and large baby, my belly already starts to feel SO HEAVY throughout the day.  I cant even imagine what it would be like closer to my edd!  So getting stuff ready now is good!!

On a fun note – my church family threw me a baby shower this past weekend.  It was such a sweet time and I so appreciated it!!

Alright, I think that is about all of the baby news for now!

Hi Katie, Just wanted to say your pregnancy blogs have been so touching. I’m praying for your and your little girl. In 1967, my doctor gently told me an earlier miscarriage had resulted in damage to both fallopian tubes and I would not be able to have children. But, the next year I had my first baby girl; 5 years later, a baby boy; and 5 years later, another baby girl; in 2012, our 12th grandchild was born. Love to a Christian sister, Carolyn
