Thanksgiving Thankful Tree

This is a fun tradition we started last year to help our family remember to thank God for various things in their lives!

Here is a picture of our “Thankful Tree”  last year!

Here is how it works:

First you need a “tree.”  We have cut out a tree from brown posterboard that we use to stick our leaves on with sticky tack.  You could also use a bare branch placed in a flower pot, and then hang your thankful leaves on it!
You ask each family member the question, “What are you most thankful to God for?”, daily, until Thanksgiving.  (Starting this late in the month you might have them answer 2 things each day, depending on the size of your family.)  Then write each family members response on a leaf and stick it on the tree.   You can read each person’s response as you place it on the tree, and/or read them all on Thanksgiving Day.  This could be done as simply or elaborate as you like!

  1. That is a neat idea to do. We hope to make some homemade pumpkin pies this weekend or next week. The boys really like it better than the canned but it does take more time. We also like the seeds roasted. Have a blessed Thanksgiving next week!

  2. Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas! Though I’m late in starting, I’ll be doing this tree with my kids for the rest of the week. Can’t wait!

  3. Thank you so much for such a lovely idea. I am from SA, so traditionally, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but as a family we have decided to celebrate it. How can a family miss an opportunity to give thanks to our Lord? If you don’t mind, I will be using your idea for the future in our family. Thanks again!

  4. I am so glad it was helpful to you! You are definitely welcome to use it!! I hope your family enjoys it!
